MiJournal - the best!

The best journal app for your Mac! Have used several other journal apps and found them frustrating so I then did more research and learned about MiJournal. Now that I’ve been using this app - I’m spoiled. All the others cannot compare. Intuituve, easy to use, professional features that do not clutter your entries. Ability to add photos, video, use your own templates, so many ways to make it your own. Customer service is wonderful. Very professional and they care for their customers. Thank you Brian! MiJournal is an integral part of my Mac and my day.

Meh

I bought this app because I wanted a journal app that allowed me to attach videos. This one allows that, but everything else about this app is unimpressive. There are no font options, resizing the photos is not convient, the words don’t wrap around the photos and there’s no way to export your entries/journal. The looks of the app is not pleasurable. It doesn’t make me feel inclined to write in it. It looks like something from the 90’s. I had hopes that this app would improve over time, but it hasn’t. I’ve used the app for several months and I just don’t have the desire to open it up and use it. I’m a modern clean lines kind of person that is artistic. This app doesn’t go along with that at all. Needless to say, I’m going to be taking my entries out the hard way and putting them into a new journal app that I purchased today; which looks much better. Only downfall is I’m losing the capability to attach videos and that is the only thing this app has going for it. Wasn’t worth the money I paid for it and now paid for another app that doesn’t have the function I was really looking for. It was just time to move on with or without video attachments.

Excellent

This is a very nice little program. All I want is an application that will allow me to capture and organize my thoughts in a couple of areas. This program dos just that. I don’t need a program that handles pictures (although this one does), maps, friends, video, or audio. Nor do I want to blog. I just want an old fashioned diary/journal in digital form. It has a few formatting tools for aesthetics, password protection, and clean layout. It syncs to Dropbox and maybe Google Drive. I’ve only used it for a day but so far have found no bugs. I wish it had tagging. However, it has a great find engine. If you’re looking for this kind of journaling application you won’t to wrong with MiJournal. Oh yes, It’s a mere $13.99

Simple, versatile and good customer service

I have always been a Franklin-Covey and loved my two page per day notes. THe ability to write notes and look them up by date I have found invaluable. However, having purchased a MacBook Air I wanted to go electronic. This journal fills in that last piece for me. I am able to take the notes about conversations or events that I used to wrtite in my planer and carry them around with me, reference them, and back them up. At 2.5 pounds. To top it off, I had an issue today with the return key not functioning, emailed the customer service line this moring and within HOURS recieved a reponse with an update that fixed the issue. (the update is soon available to all.) All in all, perfect.

A simple, elegant, Gotta-Have App for jounallers

I have purchased and downloaded many Journalling apps, and have found them either too bloated and cumbersome, or so basic that they lack useability for my purposes. MiJournal is the end of my search. It is simple, intuitive and extremely usefull. I contacted tech support about a feature that I did not understand and recieved an almost immediate response, with the answer to my question.

Mi Jounal

I have been VERY PLEASED with both the app & the customer service! I wanted to keep my journal entries on my computer, & have a USER-FRIENDLY, easy to use app…this is it! When I had some issues after downloading it, they were quick to solve the issues, and even gave me more choices for resizing photos than what I originally ordered. Get this app if you want ease of use, & GREAT customer service!

Perfect!

This journal is so straightforward and easy to use. Its great because I can password protect (my teenagers use my laptop) and its very basic. This app is perfect if you want to get your thoughts on a page - but not have a cluttered page with a lot of extras. Its very simple to use - the help page was very useful. Its also easy to insert pictures or videos in a snap. The resizer tool is great to get the picture to the perfect size. I would highly recommend this app.

Simple, easy to use, yet very powerful

I was looking for a journal application which I could use every day, and also one which allows me to choose fonts, do full searches across all journal entries, and uses encryption to protect my entries from prying eyes. After trying several other journaling applications, I found MiJournal. Its interface is very simple and clean, it allows full editing using all the Mac fonts and formatting functions (why do some journal apps not make it simple to underline or use boldface?) MiJournal allows it all - including strikethrough, kerning, superscripts, subscripts, etc. Some journal apps use password protection to open their program, but the text files they generate are in clear text for anyone to read, without any encryption. MiJournal uses both a password as well as encryption. Searches in MiJournal can be within a days journal entry, or across all journal entries, and is very fast, returning a list of not only each date, but a sample text where the searched word has been found. I believe the author is very responsive to feedback, when I contacted him, I had a reply almost immediately. MiJournal does exactly what it should do: Simple, basic journal entry. But it also goes far beyond, allowing you to edit using the normal Mac tools. This is the journaling app that I am now using.

Best journal app Ive found so far!

Mijournal has some exceptional qualities, and is better than any other journal app Ive tried--and Ive wasted $$ on several! I was looking for one that would incorporate pictures and videos (it will, very easily) and one which would sync with Dropbox so I can use on different computers (it does, also very easily). What I wasnt expecting that is a big extra is that you can run DIFFERENT journals on Mijournal for different purposes, so for the same date I can record daily events and then write in my dream journal separately. Also, I LOVE that it automatically saves--if you accidently click and go somewhere else, no problem--its all saved. You can also search by word if you are looking for something you wrote about long ago: very cool. PLUS the whole program seems very stable and dependable, which is extremely important in trusting ones memories to an app. (I used another--not sure we are allowed to mention--that claimed to offer dropbox sync, but when i tried erased all my entries and no way to get back!) I have a couple of suggestions, but these shouldnt take away from the fact that this program combines all the features really important to most of us that want to switch from paper to electronic journals. 1) Wrap-around text or a designated picture window would be nice instead of leaving big white gap when a picture is pasted in. 2) Ability to change look or colors of background (tired of blue-gray/purple) or maybe color-code days such as vacation, big events, etc. 3) Also, perhaps the app does this and I havent figured out, but when printing I would like the option of running entries together on pages rather than only one per page to save paper and to give more of a book-like feel. HOWEVER, all of these are minor niceties I can live without--for anyone looking for a journal app, I think this is the best one available and would definitely recommend!!!!

No save reminders?

This seems like a good piece of journaling software, but when you quit, it does not ask you if you want to save your changes, and it doesnt save them for you. With the new mac OS software, everything autosaves for you, so I assumed this would too. Nope. Fix that, and I will give it 4 stars. Fix text wrapping around photos, and allow multiple journal entries on a single page, and Ill give it 5.

Autosave works, and this app is great

The Autosave setting is under preferences-->defaults, and it works perfectly. I have this selection box checked, and all of my journal entries have been saved automatically whenever I have closed MiJournal. After using this application for many months, I still adore it and have no complaints at all. The edit-->search journals function, in particular, has served me extremely well. Thanks to the designer for an excellent journaling experience! I look forward to using this app for a long time.

Quick & Easy but Limited

I have been using this app almost daily for about 4 months, and it works well, but there are things I think it could do better: First, by using the entire screen on my MacBook Air 11 inch, it is hard to find any text amidst a long journal entry. Even if I have moved the cursor to make a correction, I struggle to find it after Ive made the correction. The single spacing makes finding text even harder. I wish I could set a format that double spaced or allowed other options to make text easier to navigate. While I have selected "AutoSave" in the Preferences, it doesnt. Searching entries is a simple search on keywords and is, therefore, very limited and makes it hard to really find anything. It would be nice if there were categories or topics that could be searched rather than just searching on specific words. The app lets you give a title to a journal, but not to any particular entry within the journal. Often, I would like to give an entry a title because I use my journal entries to capture ideas and thoughts for my more formal writing and publishing, but being able to search notes only by date or words within the text makes old entries extremely difficult to find. Even though I have complained aabout several things, I do pretty much like this app and continue to use it. I hope that the publisher will consider some of my comments and perhaps upgrade the app to perform a few more of the functions I have mentioned.

Its alright...

After using it for a couple weeks, I realized I could have saved myself $15 and used microsoft office. The picture and video features are kind of cool, but I dont take many videos personally. I bought this because I have been keeping a written journal and wanted to try electronic. Like I said, it isnt really worth the price, I shouldve just used a journal template in my very expensive office program.

stellar support

I looked at a few options for journaling apps and decided on MiJournal. I started by entering a few past entries but was having trouble, so I emailed support. I asked for help but also conveyed that I was unhappy with my experience to that point. Between the time I sent the email & received a response, I figured out what the issue was (the date format I was using was not compatible with the App Store version). I received a response literally a few hours after sending my email, exchanged a few emails about the issue, received a link to the developers website for the latest version and was off and running. I also received a couple of follow-up emails before I had a chance to put the latest version to the test. My actual hands-on experience with the app hasnt been very deep (adding photos, videos, etc) but I am extremely confident that if I were to have any other problems or questions, the support team would be there to assist - its refreshing to know that they believe in good customer service…thanks again Brian! p.s. - there is an option - under preferences - to autosave entries. Just thought Id toss that in because people complained about it.

Combines encryption, DropBox, and good calendar UI

I have tried many journaling apps, and this is the only one I have found any that combines 1) encryption; 2) DropBox sync; 3) and a calendar-based user interface where the user jumps easily from date to date. DayOne, for example, lacks encryption, and one can only see a bubble preview when moving through the calendar. I hope the developers keep up the good work with periodic updates. An IPad compatible version would also be on the wish list.

Great product!

This is a great program. The ability to make templates is very useful. The feature of keeping multiple journals is great!

Best Feature?

You can create multiple journals. I wanted a different journal for each of my children to chronical their lives. Otherwise this is the only good feature. Although very simple, I find this app closer to a visual nightmare. I dont like how the text wraps around the photo. If you want clean, simple, format use DayOne.

Customer Service

Just had a great experience with MiJournal. I had a minor problem with my database location and dropbox integration. I e-mailed customer support and I received a response immediately! I gave MiJournal my phone # and they followed up with a phone call and right away you are able to tell that the owners are vested and care about their program!!! I would much rather support people and entitys that have a personal tie to their products. I love the program precisely because it’s not a huge complicated behemoth. It’s suits my needs perfectly and will continue to support it. Jeff

Clunky and needs lots of improvement

I don’t like that each day in the journal is a separate file. Browsing the journal would be easy and simple if everything were in one file/database. I don’t like that it is not easy and simple to add and resize photos. Once you’ve added a photo, you have to go to the menu to select “resize” without any options reqarding the size and placement of the image. Formatting ability is limited. I’d be willing to pay more for a truly user-friendly/ergonomic journaling app.

Help When I Needed It

Their policy is "We always endeavor to reply to your correspondence within a few minutes, but please allow us up to 24 hours to respond." When I contacted them about an issue that I coudnt resolve (operator error), I got an almost immediate response, and I was given more than one suggestion as to how to solve my problem. Their response to my problem was sensitive, kind, and they offered to give any other help if the first suggestion didnt resolve my problem. This is the way I want to deal with an app provider!
